Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport: 50 years of innovation, daring and inspiration

1964 / The project to create a new airport 25 kilometres north-east of Paris is approved by the Council of Ministers.

1968 / Work begins on the construction of Terminal 1 at Paris-Charles de Gaulle. It was designed by young avant-garde architect Paul Andreu.

March 8th 1974 / Inauguration of Terminal 1 at Paris-Charles de Gaulle by Prime Minister Pierre Messmer. It has an annual capacity of 10 million passengers.

March 13th 1974 1st TWA flight "TW 800", from New York, specially decorated with the words “First flight U.S.A. Charles-de-Gaulle Airport”, lands at 7:30 am.
