Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport: 50 years of innovation, daring and inspiration
1964 / The project to create a new airport 25 kilometres north-east of Paris is approved by the Council of Ministers.
1968 / Work begins on the construction of Terminal 1 at Paris-Charles de Gaulle. It was designed by young avant-garde architect Paul Andreu.
March 8th 1974 / Inauguration of Terminal 1 at Paris-Charles de Gaulle by Prime Minister Pierre Messmer. It has an annual capacity of 10 million passengers.
March 13th 1974 / 1st TWA flight "TW 800", from New York, specially decorated with the words “First flight U.S.A. Charles-de-Gaulle Airport”, lands at 7:30 am.
